The building Magnolia occupies has an enormous amount of history.  I couldn't even do it justice by trying to rewrite it, so here is a link to the Magnolia site for an in depth history.

Many people associate the Haight with San Francisco, and in fact, the neighborhood sometimes still has the same feeling as it did in the '60's.  Here's a website that has some history about the neighborhood.
