20 Tank opened it's doors several months later than it was supposed to.  The Loma Prieta Earthquake on October 17, 1989 delayed the opening of the brewery.

The 20 Tank building used to be the Star Sheet Metal and Heating Company.  It's really weird looking at this picture and seeing 20 Tank before it was 20 Tank.

This picture is hard to see, but it is looking towards the front doors, from the first floor.  Star only had one floor, so there are no stairs in this picture.  There used to be racks in the middle of the floor to hold the metal in the warehouse.  Right where the pile of garbage is in the picture is where the stairs were built.

The industrial metal look was retained, and even enhanced a bit for the new brewpub.  The steel lettering that signified Star, were replaced with identical lettering signifying 20 Tank.

The pendant lights that hung from the rafters - all the way down to above the bar - are from an old department store on Market Street from the 1930's.

The basic message is that ever since the start, 20 Tank Brewery was built to be the best brewpub in the city (and the country).  Everything was done right, right from the start.  And it was done right, right to the finish.
